Your Ultimate Spring Home Maintenance Checklist

A fresh season is the perfect time to protect your home and prevent bigger problems later.
Spring is the season of fresh starts — and it’s also one of the best times of year to give your home a little attention. After a long winter in Central Maryland, a solid spring maintenance routine can help you prevent costly repairs, improve efficiency, and keep your home looking its best.
Start outside. Walk around your home and check for any winter damage to siding, roofing, gutters, and downspouts. Look for loose shingles, cracked caulking, peeling paint, or drainage issues that may have developed during colder months.
Next, clean out your gutters and make sure water is flowing away from the foundation. This is especially important during spring rains, when clogged gutters can lead to water intrusion and landscape erosion.
Check your HVAC system before temperatures climb. Replace filters, clear debris around outdoor units, and schedule seasonal service if needed. A little preventive care now can make a big difference once summer arrives.
Inspect windows and doors for drafts, damaged weather stripping, or signs of moisture. Spring is a great time to reseal gaps and improve energy efficiency before air conditioning season begins.
Don’t forget your landscaping. Trim bushes away from the house, remove dead branches, freshen mulch, and check for areas where water may be pooling near your foundation.
Inside the home, test smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors, inspect plumbing for leaks, and look for any signs of moisture in basements, crawlspaces, or under sinks. Spring is also a great time to deep clean overlooked spaces like baseboards, ceiling fans, vents, and appliance areas.
If you have a deck, patio, or fence, inspect it now for wear and tear. Loose boards, peeling stain, or damaged railings can worsen quickly if ignored.
The goal of spring maintenance isn’t perfection — it’s prevention. Small seasonal tasks can help you avoid major headaches later, especially when Maryland weather shifts quickly from one extreme to the next.
A well-maintained home not only feels better to live in, it also tends to hold value better over time.
