A new list of the 50 most millennial-friendly travel destinations in the U.S. put Baltimore at No. 10 for its affordable accommodations, food, drink and airfare.
Charm City comes in two spots above New York City and three above neighbor Philadelphia in the ranking by vacation rental site HomeToGo.
The top 50 cities were found by first polling 1,000 millennial-age travelers to determine which factors they consider to be most important in booking plans. Then, a list of more than 500 locations in the U.S. were evaluated to find the most "millennial-friendly" cities.
HomeToGo found six main factors millennials look for when traveling:
- -Affordable airfare
- -Availability of experiences
- -Instagrammability
- -Affordable food and drink
- -Dynamic nightlife
- -Affordable accommodations
The factors reveal a generation interested in spending less and doing more, and show mid-sized cities are often more appealing than larger destinations. In fact, the poll found 93 percent of millennials spend a significant amount of time hunting for the best-value deals.
Baltimore scored extremely high in the "affordable accommodation" section at 9.31 out of 10 points. The city also scored over 8 points in both the "affordable food and drink" and "affordable airfare" sections.
It struggled most in the "availability of experiences" and "Instagrammability" sections, where it received 5.28 and 5.30 scores, respectively. "Dynamic nightlife" was given a 6.56 score.
With a total of 42.93 points, Baltimore was one spot behind Atlanta and one ahead of Dallas.
Miami was the No. 1 city on the list, followed by Detroit, Tampa, Florida and Portland, Oregon to round out the top four. Santa Barbara, California was No. 50
